How the paintings are made

Most companies bury this. We are putting it on its own page with a link in the footer, because if you are going to be uncomfortable about it we would rather you found out before you paid us a dollar.
Where AI is used
The paintings are generated by AI image tools. The story text is written by a large language model. Neither of those things is a person with a brush or a pen, and we will never imply otherwise.
How your child's drawing actually drives it
Before anything is generated, the drawing is examined and written up as a plain list of physical facts: how many legs, which colours, which arm is longer, where the asymmetries are. We call it the character notes.
Those notes are then pasted, unchanged, into every single image we produce for your order. That is why page eleven of the book still shows the same creature as page one, and it is why the three legs survive when most tools would quietly give it four.
What we refuse to do
- We do not improve, straighten, symmetrise or beautify the drawing.
- We do not generate a character that is merely inspired by it.
- We do not use your child's artwork to train any model.
- We do not enter AI-generated work into art competitions or present it as hand-painted, and we ask you not to either.
Where a human is still involved
A person checks each painted portrait against the original drawing before it is sent. If it has drifted, it is regenerated. If it keeps drifting, we email you and refund you rather than send something your child will not recognise.
If you would rather not
Some families will read this page and decide it is not for them. That is a completely reasonable conclusion and we would rather you reach it here than feel misled later. There is nothing to cancel and you owe us nothing.
